Document Description
The purpose of this contract is to co-fund continuing development of a novel gas microturbine design that will increase electricity supply, reduce peak demand on the power grid, improve local reliability and power quality, with reduced environmental emissions. This project meets the PIER objective of improving energy cost/value of California's electricity by developing and demonstrating a significant increase in a microturbine's thermal efficiency from 24-30% to 37.5-40%. The overall technical objective is to convert the ALM's Alpha 1 into an Alpha 2 into beta units and place units in the field addressing specific technical goals. This project also meets the secondary goal of improving environmental and public health costs/risk of California's electricity by lowering emissions to less than 5 ppm NOx with acceptable CO levels, with further reduction potential.
