Document Description
The purpose of this contract is to reduce avian fatalities and electrical outages caused by avain eletrocution and collisions with power structures. Objectives are to develop tools, technologies, and protocols to evaluate, mitigate, and reduce avian power structure problems, implement audit performance to evaluate effectiveness of such tools and technologies, and improve system reliability and compliance with State and Federal Laws protecting most birds. This meets the PIER goals of improving the energy cost/value of California's electricity by reducing costs associated with avian-caused power outages and retrofitting transmission systems with bird friendly designs; improving the environmental cost/risk of California's electricity by providing effective tools to reduce avian fatalties with utlility structures; and improving the reliability/quality of California's electricity by reducing the individual projects designed to meet the stated objectives.
