Document Description
The project is the approval of a Removal Action Workplan (RAW) for the San Leandro Boulevard Source Area. The project involves the excavation and offsite disposal of soils contaminated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The elevated soil concentrations that will be addressed include up to 21 parts per million (ppm) of tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and 1.7 ppm trichloroethylene (TCE). Soil excavation is planned in two areas. One area is 10 X 10 feet and will be excavated down to a depth of 12 feet below ground surface (bgs). An adjacent area measuring 40 X 40 feet will also be excavated down to a depth of six feet bgs. A total of approximately 215 cubic yards of contaminated soil will be excavated from both areas. A similar quantity of clean fill will be used to refill the excavations and the areas will be restored to its original state. This removal action will reduce or eliminate a source of future groundwater contamination in the area.
