Document Description
The objective of the project is to restore the two ponds to their design capacity and reestablish an adequate water supply for park irrigation, to control erosion and sedimentation, and to establish native riparian and wetland vegetation along the shores of the ponds. The City has proposed to dredge the ponds, to address the sedimentation and erosion of the creek and ponds, to establish native vegetation along the shores of the ponds, and remove non-native, invasive vegetation growing in the project area in the first year (Year 1). Annual maintenance dredging, limited to a restored retention basin ("Stone Silt Barrier") located in the upper pond, will continue in years 2-5. The project is located in Newhall Community Park in the City of Concord, Contra Costa County, and encompasses 122 acres along Galindo Creek, east of Treat Boulevard. The California Department of Fish and Game is executing a Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement Number R3-2001-0696 pursuant to Section 1601 of the Fish and Game Code to the project operator, Alex Pascual / City of Concord.
