Document Description
The California Fire Foundation has formally applied to the Department for its approval to construct a memorial in Capitol Park to honor California firefighters who had died in the line of duty. The proposed monument would consist of two bronze statues (Noble and Romo Statues), a memorial wall for firefighters' names, a low seat wall, and associated landscape features and walkways. The central feature of the memorial is the "Firefighters in Action" statue (sculpted by Noble), which is approximately 14 feet tall. This statue depicts three firefighters ascending a rock slope as if engaged in responding to a fire. This feature would be close to the intersection of 13th Street and Capitol Avenue and would be protected by a 42-inch tall barrier fence as a public safety measure. The memorial would also include other landscape and access features, such as a planter area, stone paving, benches, additional trees, and low lighting. The project also includes minor relocation and extension of water and electrical service within the project site.
