Document Description
The Project involves DWR executing a grant agreement, pursuant to the Safe Drinking Water, Watershed Protection and Flood Protection Act of 2000, for a $5 million grant to The Nature Conservancy for identification and fee acquisition of properties located along the Sacramento River in the Hamilton City Area. The properties would be purchased as part of a potential flood protection and environmental restoration project currently being jointly studied by the Army Corps of Engineers, the State Reclamation Board, and Glenn County to increase flood protection for the Hamilton City Area. All properties will be purchased by The Nature Conservancy from willing sellers. Approximately 2-5 parcels, depending on size and current land use, will be acquired. Current uses of the potential properties include agriculture and or natural riparian habitat. All or a portion of the properties may be contributed to the non-federal sponsors of the future federally authorized flood control/environmental restoration project. All acquired lands will remain in agricultural production through the term of the agreement or until property interests are conveyed for a future flood damage reduction project, except that land fallowed consistent with reasonable agricultural practices shall be deemed as remaining in agricultural production through the term of the Agreement. No flood control project will be initiated without further CEQA compliance.
