Document Description
The work will take place in a culvert on John Hiaatt Creek, tributary to Beebe Creek thence Navarro Creek. John Hiatt Creek is seasonal and is usually dry in the summer. However, this portion of the creek is spring fed and there may be some water present during construction. The purpose of the project is to repair an existing 66 inch culvert that is severely perforated at its bottom. This situation is a potential hazard to aquatic life and the culvert could fail filling with road fill and damming the stream. The proposed work consists of pumping cement from trucks on the roadway through a 3 inch hose into the bottom of the culvert to a depth of 4 inches filling in all perforations. A total of approximately 17 cu. yds. of concrete will be pumped. If there is any water present in the culvert prior to the start of work, the culvert will be dewatered upstream of the culvert using hay bales and plastic, approximately 1 foot high, placed approximately 10 feet upstream of the culvert intake, to form a dam. The impounded water will then be diverted into a hose and released below the outlet of the culvert. The hose will be screened to preclude aquatic organisms from being forced through the diversion. Issuance of a Streambed Alteration Agreement Number R3-2001-0372 pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 1601.
