Oakland Army Base Redevelopment Plan

The Port of Oakland's reuse of portions of Oakland Army Base ("Port Project") is part of a larger project described and analyzed in the City of Oakland's Oakland Army Base Area Redevelopment Plan EIR. The Port Project is the portion of the Proposed Project described in the EIR that would be carried out by the Port, consisting primarily of relocating and existing rail yard (New Intermodal Facility), building a new marine terminal (New Berth 21), and providing infrastructure improvements. Port development on the OARB is anticipated to occur on approximately half of the base property. The Port may, however, be required to purchase more of the Oakland Army Base property than the Proposed Project contemplates. If this occurs, the Port Project will include Port implementation of the following development on the additional property the Port receives: 1) the Proposed Project (e.g., office and/or R&D space); 2) the Full Maritime Alternative described in the EIR (adding more ancillary maritime support space); or 3) a combination of some elements of the Proposed Project and some elements of the Full Maritime Alternative, if this combination would neither cause impacts more severe than those of the Proposed Project nor cause new significant impacts.
