Document Description
Upon demolishing Building P at Tyco, localized contaminated soil was discovered exceeding the industrial preliminary remedial goals (PRGs). To minimize the exposure to onsite workers, Tyco proposes to: 1) excavate, remove and dispose of 600 cubic yards of soil contaminated with elevated concentrations of benzene, benzo(a)pyrene, 1,1-Dichloroethene (DCE), and tetrachloroethene (PCE). Soil also contains elevated levels of Nickel and Chromium in the fill material (upper 3'-4') due to the source of artificial fill materials (serpentine rocks for the freeway I-280 construction). The excavated soil will be disposed of at a permitted hazardous waste landfill. 2) collect confirmatory soil samples to ensure that the industrial PRGs, an interim remedial goal is acheived; and 3) to backfill the excavation with imported clean fill compacted to 90 percent relative compaction.
