Document Description
The County of Merced, in conjunction with Caltrans and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), proposes to replace Bear Creek Bridge (Bridge #39C0095) on Dichenson Ferry Road in Merced County. The new bridge is to be a 90-foot long by 35.5 foot-wide concrete structure which will be placed in the same location as the old structure. The project will necessitate the realignment of four adjacent canal bank roadways, the removal of an existing residence, and the widening of Dickenson Ferry Road to 32 feet for a length of approximately 600 feet on both sides of the bridge. On the east side of the bridge, Dickenson Ferry Road and the adjacent Quinley Avenue intersection will be realigned. A substantial amount of fill will need to be imported to provide for a smooth vertical transition to the existing grade. Several hundred feet of the O'Donnell Lateral, an irrigation canal owned and operated by the Merced Irrigation District, will need to be relocated as a result of this project. Significant modifications will need to be made to the irrigation system from the agricultural property on the northwest corner of the project.
