Document Description
The project is a bicycle and pedestrian trail project stretching from Mulberry Street on the north to the corner of Plano Street and Dave Avenue on the south, approximately two miles. This portion is within the abandoned easement of the railroad right-of-way. The City of Porterville will acquire a corridor within this property, and the remainder will be owned/developed by private individuals. Eventually, the trail will connect with the proposed Tule River Parkway by the Plano Street Bridge, via a Class III bikeway. The Tule River Parkway has been reviewed in a previous environmental document. As part of the project, the City will be processing a General Plan Amendment to the land/use and parks and recreation elements, to establish a planning basis for the rail/trail. Each of these planning documents will be amended to incorporate the rail trail as a future planning goal/project of Porterville.
