Document Description
The San Luis Obispo County Flood Control and Water Conservation District (County Engineering), in cooperation with the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service, is proposing to conduct maintenance sediment removal activities in the Arroyo Grande Creek Flood Control Channel. The project involves removing isolated pockets of accumulated sediment from between the levees of lower Arroyo Grande Creek. In order to comply with the requirements of the National Marine Fisheries Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, sediment removal activities would not occur within 15 feet of the flowing channel, and sediment would be removed down to a depth of two feet above the adjacent creek channel only. In addition, biological monitors would be in place to ensure that no impact to sensitive species occurs. The project will be funded by local flood control assessment funds. The project is located on Arroyo Grande Creek, between the ocean and a point approximately 1 mile downstream from Highway 101, south of the community of Oceano and the City of Arroyo Grande, in San Luis Obispo County.
