The Santa Clara Valley Water District's Stream Maintenance Program (SMP) is an ongoing program that guides routine maintenance activities in County flood control channels, creeks, and canals. Primary maintenance activities include sediment removal, vegetation management, bank stabilization, management of animal conflicts, and minor maintenance activities on District property and easement in flood control channels, streams, canals, levees and adjacent property. The program forecasts and manages maintenance work, tracks costs, mintors environmental conditions, and provides habitat mitigation.
