Document Description
The slope located directly above the dwellings on Dolphin Drive and its interesting cul-de-sacs frequently gets saturated with surface and subsurface drainage during the winter season. There have been instability problems in certain locations on this slope due to this saturation. These failures threaten several adjoining residential properties located directly down slope from the failures. A previous property owner constructed a concrete drainage ditch perpendiculare to this slope several years ago to convey surface drainage away from unstable areas and to reduce the amount of runoff percolating into the soil at these problem locations. In addition, a series of check dams were constructed at the outfall end of the drainage ditch to slow flow velocity and minimize erosion. These improvements have been severely damaged over the years by high velocity runoff due to inadequate drainage design. Soil instability problems have occurred during the past two winters causing deposition on three or more residential parcel in Seascape. If this situation is allowed to continue minor landsliding may threaten several homes.
