Document Description
The proposed project is the development of up to 2.227 million square feet of industrial uses and a Central Reliability Energy Center (CREC) on a 139-acre site in the Alviso area of North San Jose. The proposed industrial uses would comprise a "Super Hub" for worldwide (global) Internet traffic. The "Super Hub" portion of the development would consist of high-capacity, secure, communications facilities in warehouse-type buildings. Uses on the site would include telecommunications carriers and Internet data centers for various corporate users. The proposed, on-site Central Reliability Energy Center would include an electric cogeneration facility, a chiller plant for producing chilled water for cooling, and backup equipment for reliable operation of the data centers. The CREC is proposed on land owned by the City of San Jose as part of the buffer lands surrounding the San Jose-Santa Clara Water Pollution Control Plant.
