Document Description
CDFG is intending to execute a Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement pursuant to section 1603 (SAA #R5-2001-0148;R5-2001-0149) of the Fish and Game Code to the project applicant, Metromedia Fiber Network Services. The applicant proposes to impact streams for the purpose of building fiber optics networks optimized for internet technology, consisting of data traffic loops in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. At the San Diego Creek location, work will consist of a single directional bore. At the Eaton Canyon Reservoir location, work will consist of a series of directional bores. While the anticipated work may not result in substantial impacts to riparian resources, the Department has found that the directional bore process may result unpredictably in the discharge of bentonite clay into the stream by uncontrollable discharges through fissures and fractures (frac-out) in the stream channel substrate.
