A method of treatment for groundwater contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons or other contaminants involve the addition of compounds that release oxygen into groundwater. The treatment system speeds up the cleanup of contaminated groudwater by supplying an oxygen source to the subsurface environment in order to stimulate microbial growth. Increasing the available oxygen facilities microbial degradation of the contaminants.
