Gillespie Field LDA/DME

The project is the installation and operation of a Localizer Directional Aid (LDA) for Runway 9L (Left)/27R (Right). The proposed LDA would be used in conjunction with the existing non-precision localizer approach and would consists of establishing a localizer with distance measuring equipment (DME). The LDA/DME is a navigational aid used as a guidance system to allow airplane pilots to use instruments to approach and land at the airport. The proposed LDA/DME would result in aircraft following a flatter descent angle and lower altitude when compared to the existing conditions. The localizer array is approximately 6 feet high and consists of eight evenly spaced, bar-like antenna elements built on a pier foundation approximately 60' x 10'. A 12' x 8' x 9' equipment shelter is also proposed. The DME would be in the same location as the LDA and consists of a ground based transponder mounted on a pole approximately 12' high and 4" in diameter with an obstruction light on top. Access to both the LDA/DME and equipment shelter would be from existing paved airfield surfaces.
