Document Description
Remedial work will be completed at Lopez Dam to strengthen the structure to withstand a maximum credible earthquake (MCE). To accomplish this the following is proposed: alluvium strengthening through the installation of stone columns at the base of the dam, widening the crest and the downstream side of the dam buttress, creation of up to two large borrow areas (up to 500,000 cubic yards) near the existing dam (requiring the crossing of Arroyo Grande Creek), establishment of a staging area for construction equipment (5.9 acres), establishment of a large stockpile area for dam base material and spoils (up to 15 acres), importation of gravel for stone columns (up to 75,000 cubic yards), moving of the existing outlet control building, and other remedial repair work. The overall area of disturbance would be up to 36 acres.
