Land Use Designation: A-1 (Agriculture, 5 to 40 acre minimum parcel size).
Zoning: AG-1 (Agriculture - coastal zone)
Document Description
Proposes a program consisting of ordinance amendments and rezones applying to all agricultural land within the coastal zone of the Carpinteria Valley zoned AG-1 to two new agricultural zone districts (Zoning Ordinance Article II). Related amendments to the Local Coastal Program and County Agricultural Preserve Uniform Rules are also proposed. The AG-1-CARP (Expansion) zone would allow new greenhouse development to occur. The AG-1-OF (Open Field) zone would allow existing greenhouse uses to continue but would preclude any new greenhouse development. Both new zone districts would allow the continuation of all other agricultural uses that are currently allowed in the existing AG-1 zone. Adoption of the program could result in the buildout of 3.0 million square feet of new greenhouse development. Alternative programs are also evaluated in the DEIR.
