THREE OF THE TEST BARRIERS ARE TIDAL BARRIERS THAT ARE DESIGNED TO IMPROVE WATER LEVELS AND CIRCULATION AND REDUCE SALINITY CONCENTRATIONS TO LEVELS THAT ARE ACCEPT- ABLE TO LOCAL SOUTH DELTA FARMERS. THE FOURTH BARRIER IS DESIGNED TO IMPROVE MIGRATION CONDITIONS IN THE SOUTH DELTA FOR SALMON SMOLTS EMIGRATING FROM THE SAN JOAQUIN RIVER TO THE OCEAN DURING THE SPRING.
