Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is executing a Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement (R3-2001-0359) pursuant to Section 1601 of the Fish and Game Code to the project applicant, George Sukkar/Alameda County Public Works Agency. The applicant proposes to remove approximately 75,000 cubic yards of sediment from approximately one-half of the lake and distribute that sediment over settling basins adjacent to the lake. A floating dredge would be used to remove the sediment in a water slurry, which would then be transported through pipes to the settling basins. Sediment would be allowed to settle out of the water before the water would be returned to the lake. The project is necessary to increase the storage capacity of the lake and enhance its flood protection capacity prior to the onset of the winter rainy season. The project is located at Lake Elizabeth in an 82-acre man-made lake southeast of Fremont, California, in Alameda County (Section 34, Township 4 South, Range 1 West, Assessor's Parcel Number 525-0001-010-00). The lake was constructed in 1966 to provide flood protection for the area during periods of high rainfall.
