Document Description
The G3 Byron Mine Expansion Project encomposses 103.3 acres of grassland habitat that contains 0.18 acres is seasonal pond habitat. The project shall impact 103.3 acres and 0.16 acres of the seasonal pond habitat. The project shall also provide protection, mitigation and enhancement activities on 443.1 acres. The expansion shall occur in two locations within the G3 Byron Sand Mine, 73.3 acres and shall be permanently impacted in the area designated the Coarse Beds and 30 acres in the area designated Evo-East.
The expansion shall occur in three phases in the Coarse Beds section of the project. Phase 1A shall occur in Coarse Beds North and shall impact 18.0 acres from 2015 to 2020. Phase 1A Project site shall serve as the new settling pond begging in 2020. Phase 1B shall occur in the Central Coarse Beds and shall impact 9.9 acres from 2015 to 2022. Phase 2 shall occur in the Coarse Beds North and shall impact 12.4 acres from 2018 to 2022; Phase 3 shall occur in Coarse Beds South and shall impact 29.0 acres from 2020 to 2028. Screening and Hopper Equipment shall impact an additional 4 acres in the central course bed area and shall operate from 2015 to 2028. Commencement of Phase 2 shall require the construction and verifications of viable ponds by CDFW in Mitigation Areas 1 and 2. Failure to construct viable pond shall result in a staggered Phase 2 based on the seasonal life cycle of Covered Species.
Expansion of mine activities in the Evo-East portion of the project shall permanently impact 30 acres of grassland habitat and shall be initiated simultaneously with Covered Activities in Phase 1 of Coarse Beds North from 2015 to 2028. The Evo-East site shall consist of a mine quarry, screening/hopper equipment and an overburden area for top-soil and ore. The impact includes 20.5 acres for the quarry, 5.5 acres for the rejection and overburden and 4 acres for the screening and hopper equipment.
