Document Description
The project consists of two phases, including but not limited to, various street improvements: (1) the extension and widening of Newport Avenue south of Edinger Avenue to Valencia Avenue and north of Edinger to Tustin Grove Drive; (2) the widening and addition of one travel lane in each direction on Newport Avenue north of Tustin Grove to Myrtle Avenue; (3) construction of a new intersection at Edinger Avenue and Newport Avenue; (4) construction of a railroad bridge to allow Newport Avenue to pass under the railroad tracks; (5) realignment of a flood control channel to a box culvert to allow Newport Avenue to pass over the flood channel; (6) reconfiguration of the Edinger Avenue northbound SR-55 on and off ramps; (7) widening of Valencia Avenue on the north side to four travel lanes from the new intersection with Newport Avenue to Redhill Avenue; (8) widening of Del Amo Boulevard to four lanes and realignment to intersect with Newport Avenue; (9) widening of Edinger between west city limits (SR-55) and Del Amo Avenue to major arterial status consistent with OCTA's Measure M Smart Street Program; (10) provision of new and modified signalization at certain intersections; and (11) addition of new landscaping, medians and parkways along northbound SR-55 ramps and the southerly Newport Avenue extension. In addition, the project will require a number of discretionary actions by the City and Agency including right-of-way acquisition; the formation of a utility undergrounding district; and, the possible formation of an assessment district and/or community facilities district. A boundary reorganization is also proposed. The project is within the Pacific Center East Specific Plan Area. The project is consistent with the Pacific Center East Specific Plan and its Circulation Element.
