Document Description
Caltrans has prepared two alternatives that provide improvements to the roadway to address the observed collision patterns. Both alternatives will improve the roadway alignment by modifying horizontal curves and vertical profile on SR 191 in Butte County. They will each help to prevent motorists from driving off of the road, provide a wider recovery area for errant vehicles and improve sight distance. By policy, roadway improvements to this degree require the roadway to be improved to current mandatory design standards by straightening out curves, widening the shoulders to 8 feet and correcting the vertical profile to stay under a 7% grade.
