Document Description
The proposed 2002 General Plan is an update to the Sand City 1984 General Plan, and has a time frame of approximately 15 years. Its proposed land use policies acknowledge significant events and trends that have occured since the General Plan was last updated. The General Plan advances land use policies of "traditional neighborhood development" (mixed commercial/residential land use, grid streets, pedestrian-friendly environments). The General Plan proposes a "build-out" population of approximately 1300 residents, up from its current population of 261. In order to facilitate this planned growth, the Plan also calls for a small water desalination facility to be constructed, similar in size and technology to the successful plant currently being operated in Marina, California.
