The California Department of Water Resources (Department) proposes to enter into a one year agreement to allow the transfer of 8,786 acre-feet of the 2001 Castaic Creek flood flows (storm waters) to Castaic Lake Water Agency (CLWA). These flood flows are normally retained in Castaic Lake until May 1 of each year pursuant to a 1978 Conservation Agreement (the Agreement) the department has with United Water Conservation District, Newhall Land and Farming Company, Newhall County Water District, and the County of Los Angeles, collectively the Downstream Users. The Department will retain 1,200 acre-feet of 2001 Castaic Creek flood flows to CLWA without expectation of repayment or compensation. CLWA will use the water to meet its residential and municipal demands for the 2001 water year.
